Saddlers and Harness Makers Owen and Nelson Stanger

ELLAND is an ancient town mentioned in the Domesday Book. But the three wise owls on the coat of arms belong not to the ancient Eland family, but to the original Savile Coat of Arms.

The Eland family met a blood stained fate in one of the dramatic chapters of the Eland feud.

In 1895 District Councils succeeded the local Health Boards and in 1937 the District Councils of Elland.Greetland and Stainland were amalgamated to form Elland Urban District Council.

The next shake up was in 1974 when Elland became part of Calderdale.
